DBWI Eartha Kitt isn't in the Dick Van Dyke show

The Dick Van Dyke show ran from 1960-1965

The show stared Dick van Dyke as Rob Petrie and Eartha Kitt as his wife Laura Petrie. The show was the first American television show to feature an interacial kiss, marrage and family. In the beginning it was lambasted by racist organizations but their calls to cancel the show only made it more popular and it ended up winning a lot of rewards and becoming one of the classics of the 1960s.

But Eartha Kitt almost didn't apply for the role that firmly made her a star and the writers considered a little known performer known as Mary Tyler Moore for the job instead, but in the end Kitts performance won them over and she got the part.

But what if that didn't happen what would American culture look like if Eartha Kitt didn't get the role?

Hopefully there wouldn't have been that ridiculous 1966, er, spinoff (?) where Dick van Dyke was a spaceship captain and Eartha Kitt was his science officer. As a result, Desilu Productions maybe doesn't go bankrupt and Desi and Lucy stay married.

It only lasted six episoides and afterwards we were all happy that Kitt decided to become Catwoman instead of trying that again.

If Eartha Kitt is on THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW then it means she's NOT doing one of my favorite episodes of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - The Traitor. I wonder who would replace her, maybe Yvonne Craig?
