Immediately after George Lucas sold Lucasfilms to Disney, Disney announced they would be rebooting the franchise, eventually culminating with 2014's Star Wars: The New Hope, helmed by Gennedy Tartovsky, followed by Rian Johnson's Grip of the Steel Order and the upcoming Jedi Rising, directed by Gareth Edwards. However, early on, there were talks between Disney execs and Lucasfilms they'd actually create a sequel trilogy set in the previous canon (which 20th Century Fox currently has the rights to), based off ideas by George Lucas. What if Disney decided to go through with creating a followup sequel trilogy, and how would this affect the franchise, Disney, and more broadly, the pop cultural landscape of the 2010's?
