DBWI: Different standards of beauty?

As many people know, the standards of beauty are very different between North America and Europe, and have been for centuries. For example, both men and women in Europe shave their pubic and body hair, where as the very same body hair is considered atractive in both men and women in North America. Men in North America neve shave their beards because American women find full beards atractive, where as in Europe Moustaches and Gotees are considered atractive, and not "enfeminate" as they are in North America. Tanning is common for both men and women in North America, where as whiteness is considered more atractive to both men and women in Europe. Both American Men and woman are considered more atractive if they have more muscle then fat, again opposite as in Europe, who perfer fat men and women. It's also considered "manish" for a woman to be over 6ft in Europe, where as in America this is considered especially beautiful. Finally, the size of the breasts, Americans like them large, where as European men like them small. So my question to you, if the standard of beauty can be so radically different between two regions with so much shared culture and history, it stands to reason that stadard of beauty would be rather different in alternate timelines as well. What historical events would need to happen differently to have radically different standards of beauty in another timeline?

i dont know where your "standart of beauties" your basing after, but i wont agree here. myself living in europe, i can definatly say that tan is also considerd more beautiful than being pale white. and fat man/woman re not a beauty standart here, not sure where you got that from, but too thin is not popular either, like many say, that models are all anorexic and not beautiful at all, a normal, average shape is most popular. not too thin, not too fat.
also not sure about mustaches or goatees, i would rather say, that no beards are most popular, full beards are not a beauty standard.
europeans like normal breasts, that means no plastic surgery breasts, although that gets more and more accepted in the society, i rember when i was younger, it was less accepted and more forwned upon, however even nowadays, most who have plastic surgey are either viewed as some porn actors or prostiutes.
pubic shaving is common in europe yes, however more common among females than on males. especially among younger people.

You americans are funny people - you tend to exaggerate

best example the "more fat" statement - sure we like more "rounded" body conturs, but thats just better than those twiggyesque ideal you have over there. Just look at the number of Anorexia nervosa cases in the Americas and in Europe.

But that was not your question...

Our "beauty standards" are defineitely based in the English ideal.

After the rebellion of 1776 - quickly crushed with help of the French and Spanish Monarchs who saw the danger of "democracy" and reconsidered their enmity against Enuglad - the Americas became big prisons where we dumped all the criminal elements. And after we experienced what the industrial revolution can do to the environment we decided to preserve the natural beauty of our countries and do all our producing in the Americas. Of course manual labor produces bodies like yours, while we europeans only work in occupations that need more brain than muscles.

Good that we have our African mercs who keep you down... ;)

But imagine a world where your revolution actually suceeds and not only workers go to the Americas, but you actually get your share of scientists. And we would to have industrial plants here in Europe too.
Maybe we would share another beauty ideal. But what would it be?
