President Dewey ran for President in 1944 and lost to FDR. Of course he then beat Truman in 1948, and became one of the most popular Presidents in American history, winning re-election in a historic 49-state landslide. So what would the world have been like if Dewey had managed to upset FDR in 1944? Would he have dropped the atomic bombs like Truman? What would have happened if the US had had a competent leader right from the beginning of the Cold War, instead of having to wait a few years?
