DBWI: Czech-Slovak Nation?

I was reading a timeline where the entente wins the great war and after the war, part of the post war treaty was the creation of a Czech-Slovak State out of Austria-Hungary. Im not sure how realistic and stable this idea would be. They are closely related people yes, but i'm not sure how they could stay together (Especially given that this state also seemed to have decently large German, Hungarian, and Ruthenian Minorities) What are your guys thoughts on this?

A Czechoslovakia state would not only cause a surge of irredentism, in Hungry, Austria and Germany. It would also be strategically indefensible. Doubt the enente would be so foolish to enact such a policy even in the unlikely event they won.

Then again, when Germany won the war, they took the Czechs and Slovakians and mushed them with the rump Poland state to make a West Slavic state (which later included Silesia) and one of the German princes took over it.

Though given how that was a German puppet with a Central Powers victory, probably extenuating circumstances

It depends with what the borders would be when Germany formed Zapodaslavia they took the Sudetenland due to its high German pop. But in an entente victory where “Czech-Slovak” is created that they would to gain the Sudetenland and that would just fuel Austrian and German irredentism. I can’t see it happening though I see Bohemia just staying with Austria for how unlucky entente troops would be to get their and dictate the peace on the ground.

Well ... a Czech-Slovak nation ? I think it could work as a Austria-Hungary-Illyria-Whatever system like what the Chancellor Maximilian von Hohenberg implemented in Austria-Hungary, but they separated Czechs and Slovaks ... as a stand alone nation, as Sirdragon said, how would you defend a state that is literally a straight line from Germany to Russia ? It is kinda like trying to get Togo viable without the union with Dahomey, how would that even work ? The two states would be friends, probably even allies, but I don't see them as a union if they aren't part of something bigger

An arrangement like that would never last, except by force. And the inevitable break-up would make what happened to Yugoslavia look like a day at the county fair.

And such a break up would make it easy for them to fall to the red menace as the Balkans did otl. With the Pan Slavic People's Union in the heart of democratic Germany you'll see a lot more nukes than otl.

Austria-Hungary would have been in an even tougher position after losing Illyria (which is what I assume you meant by Yugoslavia) with commies surrounding Hungary
