DBWI Crusades fail

Given how much of the international news in my lifetime focuses on the Kingdom of Jerusalem, I wonder how things would have been different if the surrounding Muslim states had succeeded in either preventing it or destroying it in the first two centuries of its existence?

Make sure that Byzantium was unable to unite the crowns of Christiandom, so remove the Communist Byzantine republic from the equation.

Eh, everybody makes such a big hullabaloo about religion and warfare and nations in West Asia. They've been fighting over whose faith is right or whose government is right forever. Who cares?

Here in Vespuchia we've had peace for two centuries. From Nieuw Nederland to the Haudenosaoni Republic, from New Portugal to the Nabiho Nation, we've all learned to get along. Who wants to read another violent TL? Give me a TL with peace in Europe!

(OOC: ;););))

Maybe if they fell into infighting. IF 5-6 kingdoms work together they're pretty much always going to succeed, but that doesn't mean they can't bicker over the spoils later.

The Kingdom of Jerusalem is basicly a puppet state of the Leventine Sultanate.

Maybe the Muslims would have become arrogant and lazy if they had won. I mean the reason for the reawakining of the Umma was the loss of Jerusalem and Palastine and with it the control of the eastern mediteranean sea. I doubt the Maghribis would have started building fleets to reach Arabia and India if they had direct access through the Sinai and Palestine. Thanks to that the new continents where discovered. Yes it was dicovered by Vespuchi but who were his sponsors...
Also just imagine the crusader states found the new world first? I doubt the native nations would have survived.

That would be the remnants that would have survived the diseases brought in by the early Maghrebi slavers?

I didn't know that only the Dutch suffered from smallpox?
We don't even who if that is the right diseases. Apparently there was a lot of confusion over different types of pox, but I would say it is slightly more likely with the Dutch slaves spreading it to the Corsairs. Depends if the Flemmings or Hollanders were on ships transporting animals or if they were farmers grabbed and run off with.

Okay I see your point - but it's a little harsh to blame the whole post-Vespucchian catastrophe on agents that had no choice in their relocation. The Maghrebi always gloss over the dark side of their Empire days.
