As we approaching the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Arab Union (Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Palestine [1], Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Kingdom of Arabia, Yemen, United Arab Republics [2], Oman), there is much to rejoice. The AU is the world's third largest economy and has produced numerous Nobel Prize winners.
But suppose the AU never formed and the Middle East never enjoyed peace. What would be the earliest POD for it to happen? Maybe the British favor the al-Saud clan over the Hashemites in Arabia (in OTL, the al-Sauds fund terrorist operations in Indonesia, Malaysia and the French province of Algeria). Or the Jews in Palestine create their own nation instead of the Republic of Palestine that exists today. How would their Arab neighbors feel about that?
How would you a imagine a dystopic Middle East?
