President Castro? Really? I mean, I cast my (absentee) vote for him, but I just assumed like everyone else that it was a protest vote. Then again, the economic crisis is ten times worse in Dixie then the U.S.

The Democrats are taking a beating in Congress, too, which makes sense, considering. Clinton should've quit while he was ahead and not finagled that Yankee-born wife of his into the Grey Mansion for his de-facto second term. (Well most of one, anyway.) (OOC: Let's just assume there's no "native-born" requirement for the Confederate Presidency. It got amended out, or something.) The Dems may never recover...and that's assuming the country holds together at all.

Last I heard, the Socialists have the House, the Dixiecrats have a majority coalition in the Senate, and South Carolina is threatening to secede. Interesting times ahead, in the sense that I might want to just go ahead and naturalize as a Yankee citizen. :p

EDIT: Damn, missed the OP about the sitting President. Well, given how badly the Dems did, at the expense of the Socialists of all people, I can only assume that a Democrat was holding the ball when something bad went down. So let's say Hillary resigned/was impeached, and Harriman Lee took over mid-term...

Despite being a white Southron I am a firm member of the Civil Rights Party, and always have been, and I proudly support Mr. King for President.
The man's pushing 80 for crying out loud. The Civil Rights Party has worn out its welcome anyway. I mean, they did a pretty good job of leading the abolitionist movement in the years leading up to the abolition of slavery in 1910, and they did a good job in ramming anti-segregation bills through state legislatures in the 50s and 60s. The segregationist movement has been a joke since Texas became the last state to adopt anti-segregation laws in 1970. As for the Civil Rights Party themselves, they've become nothing more than gangsters pressing government officials to get more entitlements for blacks and tarring as racist anyone who opposes them.

Being from the USA, this should be fun. Invasion time!
Get the f**k outta here you latte-swilling Yankee troll.
OOC-I don't know if you realize it, but this is a DBWI. You are obviously looking at this thread from the the perspective of OTL. No doubt you are seeing images of Spike Lee's abominable film C.S.A.

I supported the OSS assassin who subsequently ended this farce of an election. "Lone gunman on a grassy knoll," shows what you know Southron suckas.

Does it really matter? The tenuous state of democracy, or what passes for it, in the CS is the key reason why that nation has become the third-ranking power in North America behind the US and Canada. The CS hasn't had a reasonably competent president by any standards, including their own rather loose ones, since Woodrow Wilson left office in 1919.

It's interesting that nobody has mentioned the rising Consolidation movement in the CS, which advocates re-joining the US. Of course, US president Christine Todd Whitman won't hear of it (nor would her predecessor, Jack Kemp): if it became reality, those states would be a tremendous drag on the US economy until they're brought up to contemporary US standards.

IC: In an ideal world, people like you, who consider those who attempting to enforce fair housing and fair wage laws "gangsters" would be lined up against a wall and shot. But since we don't live in that ideal world, we have to deal with our differences peaceably. I'd say your view of your own history is terribly myopic. Our dear CSA aint some shining beacon on a hill, cousin. We have to deal with our collective hist'ry. And the fact of the matter is, there is not a nation on this earth guilty of crimes more shocking and bloody than this Confederacy. And we continued to deal with the legacy of those crimes.

OOC: I really don't care, but given your outspoken views as a neo-Confederate, you might want to tone it down a bit.

IP: What does everyone think about President Castro's first one hundred days in office?

OP: The OP said Dexter Scott King, MLK's son, not MLK himself.
