DBWI: Communist Russia?

What would it have taken for Russia to become Communist?
Say, during or shortly after World War One?

I know it's unlikely, since Russia is the country who caused Germany to go Communist after they destroyed them in WWI, but thier are ways it could happen. Many of the great communist thinkers came from Russia, such as Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin
And the Bolshevik Party was rather sucsessful in Russia during the Great Depression.

So, what do you think?

unlikely during/after WWI the Tsar's Okhrana were at their strongest, members of the Bolshevik Party were killed and jailed on mass, the Party was never strong enough to over throw the Tsar

Unlikely. The Bolsheviks were a strange faction of Marxists. They believed that you could just skip capitalism and get a Revolution in a near-feudal society. They had other nutty ideas too. If they'd managed to hold any sort of power the government would have crumbled in a week.

well, thank goodness for Lavr Kornilov and his coup. Without him, the Russian Federation would not have won the First World War. We also gained much of Northern Anatolia as well as a slice of Eastern Prussia. The Black sea is Russian.

And Communism would have failed on a massive scale. Russia was a mainly backward country which Kornilov managed to craft into an industrial powerhouse.

And lets not forget the Russo-Persian war of 1926-29. We really creamed them and annexed all of Persia. Kornilov himself was there in the treasuries of Persepolis as conqueror.
