I read the latest Turtledove book, called George's Folly where the Colonial Revolt succeeds and the 13 Colonies become independent from the British Empire and form a democracy called the United States of America, under some Washingwash(?) Guy. Anyway, they defeated the British a second time and became world superpower after crushing Germany twice too(there was this mad Hitler guy) and then won a 'cold war's against Russia, then called the United 'Soviet' States of Russia(I think) and being attacked by some mad Muslims. It is so ASB that I nearly fell asleep! Honestly. What if?
Not ASB at all, my friend.
Truth is, there are actually some stunning similarities to OTL: Two world wars, a pair of mad dictators totally hell-bent on conquering their part of the world, a War Without War, and Russia and the West facing off in a game of Japanese standoff. Difference is here, Germany never went fascist(it did go Commie for a while though....from 1944-1992 to be exact), and the dictators were from Ling China and Brazil(surely every schoolkid knows about Chang Li and Eduardo Gonsalves by now, am I right?). Not to mention the horrific amounts of terrorism in most of Europe, Germany and Britain in particular, after the bloody collapse of the Arabic Union in the mid '70s.
Also, where are you from? Here in Canada(yes, we are independent, and not a crown Dominion. Not since 1847, anyway.), it's called "The Rise of America: What if the Revolution of '76 Had Succeeded?"
OOC: Also, in case nobody else has said this, welcome to AH.com.
