DBWI Challenge: Make the United States a Superpower

Let's not forget Turtledove's 19th Century AH novels in which he creates an American Civil War during Breckinridge's presidency. He even went so far to make Abraham Lincoln president. I did a Google search for Lincoln, and only found two hits. One was a short Congressional bio from Lincoln's one term in the House, and the other was a short article about his life as a lawyer in Illinois. How Turltledove could use him as the president is way beyond me. Those AH authors have to be seriously deranged to come up with some of the ideas they do.

To make things worse, Turtledove persists in creating a 12-volume series based on this minor development. He also steals Harry Harrison's idea of the 1908 Crater Lake disaster being transferred to "Tunguska, Siberia" (leading to the current Interzone lawsuit in London). This is the worst ultra-nationalist wank since the Chinese published those "manhua" in 1999...

Absence of other powers...

I suppose that the USA not getting involved in the Great War might work. With everyone chewing up their industry so badly, the Americans could have become the only great power by default. They HAVE industry galore, agriculture--they just bankrupted themselves in the Great War of 1914-1920, like everyone else. Instead of having to create multiple armies, and replace them, they would have created the one, and stood safe as the insanity destroys everyonhe else.
