I am at my grandfather's house this weekend on the way to Sea World Ohio, the second oldest theme park in existence, and while at the beach, he told me that his entire neighborhood used to be an amusement park called Cedar Point (which is also the name of the neighborhood). Apparently back in the early twentieth century it was a popular resort complete with hotels, roller coasters, and everything found at your typical amusement park. It even had a dance hall which had nationally broadcasted performances. Unfortunately, the Great Depression gave it a beating, and in the early 1950's, two real estate developers bought the land and turned it into the neighborhood it is today. I am wondering, what if Cedar Point remained an amusement park past the 1950's. Would it have become a Six Flags, or would it have survived on its own, perhaps forming a company to rival Six Flags? How about Seaworld Ohio and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Kentucky? Would they have shut down Cedar Point, or would Cedar Point have shut them down, like the latter did with Coney Island?
