DBWI: Carter Won in 1976?

What kind of President would Jimmy Carter have been had he really won in 1976? I'm not too concerned with the PoD here -- maybe Ford makes a debate gaffe, maybe there's a recount in Ohio* -- just looking at the Presidency itself.

*OOC: TTL, Ford wins Ohio and Hawaii, the former by less than 1,000 votes, giving him 270 ECVs (even as he loses the popular vote)

Could he have saved the economy from tanking like it did from '76 to '80? I don't know much about him. He seems like a smart man from all his post-political career work, at least.

Well, I'm sure he would have dealt with the crisis in Iran differently. Sending in the Fifth Fleet to back the Iranian army after they declared martial law... Well, there's a reason the Dawa Party just won its sixth straight election in Iraq and a reason we've had to have 42 000 troops on bases in the Arabian Confederation for the past 30 years. I say bring them home. Ron Paul 2012!!

A significant thing is that Carter was a centrist like Ford, so the U.S. would get something very different than it got under Stevenson. For foreign policy I have no clue. The electoral college might still be around if he had won though.

Probably avoid the Two-Hour War after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan...to this day I cannot !@#!#!@ believe Ford used nuclear weapons over that.
