DBWI: Carter looses in 1980?

*Awaits Douglas' screaming "this is a RP, not a DBWI* :D Well, would Reagan have been shot in 1982 by a deranged man obsessed with Jodie Foster?

Yeah, he probably would have. Hinckley was out there to shoot the president, and if Reagan had been elected, he probably would have been shot, just like Carter was.

How to get Reagan elected? Probably have the rescue mission to save the hostages in Iran in December 1979 fail, and have them stay under Iranian bondage. President Carter would probably have tried to negotiate with them after a failed rescue mission, and have the Republicans focus on that. Who knows? Someone might even primary challenge Carter, and might even succeed. With a very well run campaign, we could see President Jerry Brown in 1980.:D

No, this is a DBWI because Carter did lose in 1980. The thing I'm going to scream about is that I did this same DBWI a week ago. ;)

Ok, I'm still pretty new here and don't have all of the acronyms down. Can anyone help me figure out what the purpose of this thread is, except to confuse me LOL

A Double Bline What If is sort of like a What If, but from another timeline's perspective. The key to telling if something is a DBWI is if the What If being discussed actually did happen in OTL (Out Time Line).

Hope that helps. :)

It definitely helps. Thanks so much! :)

Seems about right. Then we wouldn't have gotten the awful Brown-Kennedy campaign in 88 against Bush-Dole.

Not that Bush was a bad President, otherwise he wouldn't have beaten Clinton in '92 despite the pollsters repeating 1948.

OOC: Why am I thinking of Scott Brown with an unnamed Kennedy as the Democratic ticket? :p

The economy would probably still swing into recovery regardless of the President in office, so by the time 1984 rolls around, so I guess we'd see Reagan re-elected as opposed to Mondale suceeding Carter...

The economy's not really as dependent on a President's policies as we like to think.

Didn't Reagan go a bit senile during the 80's and later get Alzheimer's? he wasn't seen much in American Politics by the early 90's when he started showing signs, so I think his Presidency could go very badly.

Reagan's idea of a massive tax cut would have meant that more money would have gone in circulation and meant massive inflation.

OOC: Jerry Brown actually.

Yea Clinton could have learned to keep it in his pants maybe there would have been some really Democratic action in the '90s. Instead we got Newt in 96 and then thankfully Al Gore-Kerry in '00
