DBWI Camp David accords go differently

Comparison
- The Camp David accords centered around creating a lasting peace between Egypt and Israel and the question of the Sinai. There was some pressure in Egypt to get the Sinai back but after deliberating on the subject Sadat decided that having a buffer state between him and Israel was a better decision. Some say this was motivated by his anger over how egypt was treated by other arab countries during the talks and the attempted PLO uprising in Jordan.

In the final agreement Egypt would get the 10% of the Sinai closest to the canal, and the rest would be turned into the new state of Palestine. After this was agreed to their was a attempt to kill Sadat with a bomb by a low level PLO operative. Angered by this event the Egyptians added in the infamous 'right to return' clause that forced Israel to relocate their Arab population into the new state. This measure was apposed by the PLO, several arab countries, and a portion of the UN but it went through.

The agreement still rankles both sides of the conflict to this day with Palastinians arguing that they were robbed of their land and Israeli's pointing out that the resulting state is bigger than modern day Israel. But what would have happened if Egypt had simply taken the Sinai back in exchange for peace? If the creation of the state of Palastine and the 'right of return' had not been enacted?

Well, because the Palestinians were furious at Israel, it did result in the Gaza War of course. The PLO sent forces in to occupy Gaza, which Israel responded with violent force and attack Palestine. Egypt and Jordan played the decisive role in the peace agreement in which Israel evacuated Gaza anyway.

As for Samaria, if it hadn't of been for Camp David, then there might have been a brutal attritional war between the occupying Israelis and the Palestinians. Many historians have speculated about this war, stating that it would have been so damaging to the Israeli economy that Israel may have collapsed under the pressure or that King Hussein of Jordan might have tried to take the land back.

OCC: damn, you ninjaed me!

OCC changing it back sorry about that OCC

There are also people who say that Palestine was created solely so that Egypt could wash their hands of the whole mess.

For one, how would the Israeli-Palestinian conflict be solved? Would it be solved? For all you can say about the ethics of forcing Palestinians to move to the Sinai was at the time, it was no different than forcing the Mizrahi Jews to move to Israel 20 years prior, and it did result in an independent Palestine.

Instead of the nation known for its beach resorts in the Sinai, what would be the fate of the Palestinians?

And what of Israel? Solving the Palestinian question left Israel in charge of everything within its borders, and aside from the occasional rockets from Syria or Lebanon, at peach with most of them, and the removal of the "third rail" of Arab politics of blaming the oppressive Jews for every ill.
