DBWI:Byzantium Falls

Is there a way to have the might Roman Empire to fall with Byzantium itself falling to a siege? I realize it might be difficult to think of a empire stretching from the British Isles to Asia Minor falling but that is the challange. I think the best chance might be that they don't make an alliance of convenience with Persia to beat off the Arab invasions. This enabled them to turn back west and reunite Europe under the Roman Empire once again. Of course you could suppose one of the heretics could have succeeded but I think that is far fetched. The vast majority of the population follow the dictates on religion by His Holiness the Patriarch of Constantinople.

Dude the Eastern Roman Empire never retook the west. It's still has it's capital in Constantinoble and it's just rules Egypt, anatolia and the balkans unless you've forgoten. The west is still full of "heritic barbarians" which I am one of them dude.

There are some Pagans to the North but Britannia, Gaul, Hispaniola, and Italia are all Roman. OOC: You can't contradict the OP. If it says Byzantium reconquered the west from the British Isles eastward than it did.

To have the Empire fall, I think the only thing that could take it down would be some repeat of the Avar-Sassanid alliance. However after Heraclius and the Muslim war both had shot their bolt. The Muslims were never in the position to try, while the Turkish Shahs of Persia gave up after their attempt in 1071, no fleet.

And the thought of the Empire falling makes me sad. That would mean no Byzantine Burgers food chain. I loved 'the tagmata's choice' commercials when I was a kid. That reminds me, the one down the street is running a special of a kataphraktoi-sized burger and a Mega soda for only nine folloi. I'm hungry.

I guess the Persians are another possibility but they have to worry about the Indian and Chinese Empires as well which limits them against the Romans. There was the competition between empires when the New World was discovered. Rome, Persia, India and China all took big chunks of it along with some minor powers such as the Vikings getting smaller colonies. Maybe without Constantinople the competition would be somewhat less fierce and the minor powers getting some more colonies?
