DBWI: Bush loses in '92

Yeah, I know how improbable it would've been for the greatest president since FDR to actually lose an election, but what would've happened if that governor guy had beaten him in a miracle. What was his name, Clifton?

Well, the Reagan-Bush dynasty was the greatest 16 years the United States has expierenced. Without Bush to take on the new Islamic threat after Reagan defeated the Communists, The world would be a much different and far worse place.

Who ever the guy was, I assume we would have something close to balanced budget right now, maybe gone into Rwanda. Who nows maybe this Clintin guy would have dealt with the Oaklahoma, and World Trade center bombings quickly with more then "investigations are under way."

Then again, would my kids be praying in school? Would morality be such an important issue as it is today? Maybe if anything Bush can be thanked for bringing "Civility back to Civilization."

If Clinton had won in 1992, then Bob Kerrey would likely not have been elected in 1996. One wonders if Fred Thompson would still be President today in a world such as that.

My father (a life lon democrat) voted for Clinton in '92, and was amazed that the independents didn't throw out Bush after he went back on the tax raises. If the economy hadn't had a surge right then which lasted until the taxes took effet...

But really, the "Public Morality" isn't as strong as people make it out to be. And I live in the bible belt! "School Prayer" is actually more of "a minute for anybody to do anything they want silently". The "WWJD" motto is an equivelant of "don't do anything stupid". It's not like Bush ever tried to sideline evolution, and he's allowed limited stem cell research much to the dismay of the far right.

What About...??

Then again remember that the country was certainly fed up with the Republicans. Consider that Ross Perot, Reform Party candidate, became the first independent candidate to win Electoral College votes since 1932. I wonder how the ellection would have turned out if the Reform Party hadn't been as successful. Would we have had the debacle of the 2000 election with Donald Trump (Ref-NY) and V.P. candidate Richard Lamm (Ref-CO), tying up the election count for 72 days?

Also, people seem to want to gloss over the 1995 Texas Supercollider Scandal, when the Congress led by Speaker of the House Richard Gephardt (D-CO), uncovered the $16.4 billion plan to build the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) led by Senator Tom DeLay (R-TX) and presidential advisor Dick Cheney?

Another item that people want to gloss over is the Major League Basesball Strike of 1994 under the failed leadership of Baseball Commissioner George "Dubbyah" Bush, Houston Astros, which caused the season to be cancelled, and caused players like Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire to retire from the game....

I won't argue on the other parts, but the worst you can really say about Bush Jr.s term as commisioner was that he took out the old experianced buecrats and tried to shake up the commision with fresh meat that was bad. Unfortunantly, he picked people who weren't competant, and was hesitant to fire them immediatly. He did try in the end, remember, but by then all sides were too entrenched to compromise.

But as for Canseco and McGwire, it wasn't as clear as you make it sound. A third-cousin of mine works for the organization that investigates players, and he told me that they were trying to bring up charges of illegal substances against the players. However, lawyers slowed down the proceedings and when the perfect opportunity to bow out arose...

Unlikely, though maybe Governor Clinton's murder by that woman in 1994 would have been butterfied away.

Then Again...

But people have to admit that it was an embarassment to the Bush administration. With the two biggest stars of major league baseball left without much notice. As the 1994 baseball season dragged on without any games, we all remember the speech with Bush Sr. saying that Bush Jr. was doing "Heckuva a fine job!!!"...

We all remember the many jokes Arsenio Hall, did on the man for the next 3 months. Then again, with the U.S. re-entry into Iraq in 1993, after the failed assassination attempt in Kuwait City, it was certainly good to laugh at anything that didn't involve the Abu Gharib Scandal or the Sadr City Massacre....
