DBWI: Bill Clinton Elected President In 1992?

I'm not exactly sure how it could happen, but let's say the recession of '93 starts earlier, which is large enough to make the incumbant President Bush unpopular, allowing Bill Clinton to be elected President in 1992?
Or maybe Bush for some strange reason decides to keep Quayle on the ticket for VP, instead of replacing him with Bob Dole?

Anyways, how do you think a Clinton presidency would have turned out?

Well, you'd need to have had Bush raise taxes in 1990 like many urged him to do. If Clinton was President he'd have operated under Arkansas Rules, which was why he was impeached as Governor in 1996 and disbarred later that year. Whitewater would've happened, but maybe Hillary wouldn't have divorced him. Clinton would've brought them back on a centrist course, unlike the left wing of the Democratic party who've dominated ever since.

Hell I wonder who we would have as President right now, after Willie and Howard Dean won last year..

Wow, a POD that ends up with Clinton as President?! I bet not even 1 in 10 Americans even knows who he is. Clinton! As if the governor of an insignificant backwater state could ever be president.

OOC: Cap'n! We've hit a POD mid-TL! We canna hold the TL together! The lines are divergin' as we speak!

Good ol' Slick and Screech! :D I'd guess someone base-roots like Biden.

Sub-TL2:

Well, Bill was the last of the old school Dixie Centrists so with him the party fell fully into the northern Libs. Well, if he'd somehow won he'd surely have butterflied President Cuomo.

Sub-TL1:

I dunno - maybe that Barack Obama fellow from Illinois. Remember, the guy elected to Congress in 1998? Obama seems like the kind of guy who could be president. Obama's running for Illinois governor this year, so who knows, maybe he will run in 2016.

Sub-TL2:

Yeah, Clinton really didn't have a chance after his defeat in 1992. When the Dems nominated Mario Cuomo in 1996, that was really the end of Clinton's chances of winning the presidency, especially after 2004, when the Dems swung a hard left by nominating that Paul Wellstone figure from Minnesota. Too bad he lost...

Sub-TL1:

A black POTUS? I doubt middle America is ready for that. Sure, they'll all say "go Barrak" to the camera, but once inside the booth they'd have second thoughts.

Sub-TL2:

Wellstone lost it with his peacenik tendencies. Hard to preach peace when Americans want blood.

OOC: Can I just rig these two together for the concise TL this needs? 'Cause I'm gonna.

I think President Nelson goes by Bill, not Willie.

Ah yes, the Astronaut President. Probably the best liked president of the last forty years, even more so than Reagan.

Well, He's only been President for a year. That could change over the years. However I do like his increased funding for NASA. We might make it to Mars after all?

But back on topic...

How do you guys think Clinto would have dealt with the Recession?
How would he have handeld the wars in Eastern Europe?
