DBWI: Best 20th Century President Of The United States Of America

As we are getting into President Barack Obama's first term, I through we might take a look back and see which President is the best of the 20th century. Who do you think is the best? Discuss (but don't flame)!

Personally, I've always thought that Henry "Scoop" Jackson (D-WA, 1972-1980) was one of the best- he presided over the collapse of the Soviet Union and communism worldwide, and helped solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, leading to them joining the European Union in 2008.

I think Thomas Dewey (R-NY;1948-1956) was pretty good. Kept up a strong front against the Ruskies in the early part of the Cold War, continued Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal, dedicated resources to helping the Civil Rights movement and kept us out of Korea, and saw a massive economic boom. Then again, FDR (D-NY; 1933-1945)was everything Dewey was and more. And yet again, James M. Cox (D-OH; 1921-1929) was everything FDR was and more, and oversaw the 1920's boom and his regulatory policies, though criticized at the time, ensured the Depression hit the US far less than it would have otherwise. So, there's three I can boil it down to if forced, but I can't decide who I think was the best out of those.

No way!

A favorite would be President Nelson Rockefeller, who passed the Civil Rights Act in 1961. Frankly, I think President Henry Cabot Lodge was a far better man for his role than that racist prick Wilson, since the United States quickly hopped into that conflict and finished it.

It's hard to overlook the century's first president, William Jennings Bryan. He preserved our economic integrity by switching to the Free Silver standard in 1897, and he prevented the little-known explosion on the USS Maine at Havana in 1898 from becoming a diplomatic conflict with Spain. If it were not for Bryan, I highly doubt the Spanish crown and the States would have such a close relationship.

Bryan's eight years (1897-1905) are widely known as some of the greatest years in this country's history.

ladies and gents, are we all forgeting the presidency of Joseph Patrick Kennedy Jr (D-MA 1965-1971)?
not only did he lead us to victory in the Vietnam and Thailand against the reds, we won the Space race against the Reds, and landed on the moon!

it's a damn shame that crazy....(what was his name) Jack Ruby shot him in San Antonio. if he had finnished his secound term who knows what he could have done?

Even if many persons dislike him, I must admit that I still admire Al Smith (D-NY, 1929-1933). During his only term, he has made much to strengthen the League of Nations, resolve the economic crisis, end the Prohibition and avoid US isolationism, engaging the United States in the disarmament efforts. Too bad he has been prejudiced for being a Roman Catholic and was forced to give the Democratic 1932 nomination to FDR following the charges of corruption that had been launched against him.
