Just got back from watching Operation Zapata, the new film about the Bay of Pigs Campaign. Gotta say Clint Eastwood was probably the best choice for director and I imagine this thing is gonna set a new bar at the box office. Of course, Hollywood is apt to take liberties with history in the interest of telling a good story, but the invasion seems like it really could've gone either way. If the anti-Castro militias hadn't come to the aid of the rebels, and if Che hadn't stupidly armed a populace that was ambivalent at best toward the new order, might the invasion have failed? And what would Cuba look like today?
