As whe all Know
In 1746 during King George's War [War of the Austrian Succession] The Spanish Defeated Lord Oglethorpe, at the Battle of Bloody March,
When a squadron of Spanish ship arrived late in the day, giving the Spanish victory, and allowing them to occupy Savannah.
Course the Spanish withdrew following the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle which restored the status quo ante bellum.
It was following this that Lord Oglethorpe requested and King George sent 5,000 Hanoverian* troops to Georgia.
These are the troops that lead the Colonial Militia to capture Spanish East Florida [1757~58] West Florida [1759~60] and finally French Louisiana in 1761.
It was the Families **of these troops, arriving from all over Germany that held off the Carolina Planters, and convinced Lord Oglethorpe NOT to repeal the ban on Slavery.
But WI. Lets say those Spanish Ships never Arrive, Lord Oglethorpe and the Georgian Militia defeat the professional Spanish troops and force them to withdraw back to Florida.
?Would lord Oglethorpe have convinced King George, to station troops to protect the Southern Border?
?Would King George have done it on the Cheap? Sending German troops that could be discharged in the Americas, instead of having to be transported back to England for discharge.?
?Without the German Troops to Capture Florida and Louisiana, Would the Havana Campaign have led to our present 'Dominion of Cuba'?
?Without all the German Farm Boys & Families, moving West after discharge, and establishing Family Farms, could the entire South have subcome to Slave based Plantations?
* They were called Hanoverian Troops, But in fact they were recruited from every part of Germany.
**In Fact it was the 1840 Potato Famine that lead to the flood of Germans, and the Gulf Coast nickname - The Kaiser's American Colony
But without the beginnings here, there would have been no German Flood in the 1840's.
