DBWI: Barry Gibb does not produce Donna Summer's albums

In 1978, Donna Summer had a hit album with Shadow Dancing which spawned a few hits including the title track, "Emotion" and "Hot Stuff." Barry Gibb produced the album and co-wrote most of the songs with his brothers Robin, Maurice and Andy. The album would result in Grammy awards for Album of the Year, Record of the Year ("Emotion") and Best Pop Female Vocal Performance. A year later, Summer recorded with Olivia Newton-John their hit duet "A Little More Love" which hit #1 in 20 countries.

There were stories that Summer almost did not pick Gibb to produce that album and considered an Italian producer which would have made the album sound more Italo-disco with synthesizers.

Would Summer have been as successful with her music if she did not choose Gibb as her producer?

Discuss among yourselves.
