DBWI Atomic bomb created later

The Manhatten project, was stated by reports that hitler and the Nazi's and other fascists were after the atomic bomb. One report written by a german scientist said that the germans could have a bomb in 1940, hitler and others wrote reports about using the weapons on US cities after victory was achieved in Europe. The germans were in fact on a completely wrong track for making the weapons and didn't have the resources to really get them into production, but those notes and letters were stolen by a spy and ended up in US hands.

These letters ended up in US hands in 1934, and the US program started a year later in 1935, when Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941 the americans had developed a working nuclear bomb that was ready to go and knew how to make more.

But what if those letters had not been stolen what if the atomic program had taken longer to be formed what would our world look like if the bomb had been invented later?

More bloodier Second World War. The nuking of Berlin was unfortunate, but it took out Hitler and the Nazi high command and ensured a quick end to the war in Europe.

We would have seen Operation Downfall, the Invasion of Japan begin.
It possible that we would have seen Soviet involvement in Japan and the splitting of Japan like in Vietnam and Korea.
The estimated number of American Dead was as high as half a Million Troops.

... and basically handed the Reds a giant propaganda victory and everything east of France on a uranium platter. I'd argue the three quarters of a century of tyranny Ivan's slapped down on the continent has caused far more deaths than were prevented by a few more years of Hitler. Especially Stalin's "Denazification and Kulakization" campaign that more or less amounted to a cultural genocide of the German people.

Aircraft development might be a little further behind.
To carry an expensive atomic weapon to Target the United States Army Air corps needed an untouchable bomber. Boeing was able to build that bomber , the B-19.
The B-15 in the B-17 were precursors to the secret B-19 Dominator. Strip down lightweight 8 engined bomber with InterContinental range capable of flying at 50000 feet.
That aircraft pushed 1940 aircraft technology to the absolute limit. A gold-plated aircraft for gold-plated targets it's relatively short 3 year service life is indicative of a how fast aircraft technology was changing. The B-19's replacement the B-21 Blackjack was smaller, lighter, cheaper, longer ranged and had bigger payload ironically its design was started before the B-19 took its first flight in 1940.
