DBWI: ATL Map of Europe

OOC: As thande said, these things can get mixed up, and we already have some people saying "Germa what? France is uber?" When weve established the opposite. We should make a list of established countries/facts to get a good DBWI going.

IC: One thing I cant understand, what is that 'Belarus' and that 'Macedonia' thats not even geographically in Macedonia?

It seems to me that something triggered in the late 1700s or early 1800s. Maybe that guy, what was his name who tried to do an emperor thing in France, Bonnytart or something?

Perhaps he succeeded in this timeline and that's why France is so small, you know falling apart from his idiotic rule. Maybe that led to the rest of Europe growing in prominence.

What do you guys think?

having read the timeline, i can conclude that the guy had a hate on for Germany and Russia,

i mean seriously once the 20th century rolls about, a minor event triggers Austria-Hungary (yes they were united, how impropably, with Austria even leading the union, ASB if i see it) declaring war on Serbia (you know that Ottoman province) causing Russia to go to war, followed by Germany and France. After four years of Stalemate Germany just collapses together with Russia and the Ottoman Empire.

both become unstable states, Germany becoming a fascist Dictatorship and Russia (the Soviet Union) a communist dictatorship, Germany quickly transforms into a jew murdering cartoonish villain that conquers all of Europe, then half of Russia only to get its ass ground to dust, split into 2 states, With Russia taking over the cartoonish villain gig instantly, untill they are destroyed by the economies of a US-European alliance (yes a non-issolationist USA that intervened in both big European wars), also did i mention the European Union some sort of Proto superstate slowly being formed out of the European power that after 6 years of massacaring each other magically get along fine?

that odd crusader state is btw a Jewish state established after Germany's defeat.

Completely ASB.

What about that most proud and martial of nations, France? Clearly, if you have a free Poland whose western frontier abuts the Oder, it will have been because of the intervention of France. If Europe had suffered such indignities at the hands of the Germans as this person described, the French should have acquired the remainder of the Rhineland, thereby allowing France to expand to her natural borders and ushering in a new age of peace.

Istanbul? Where is glorious Constantinople, city of lights and charming sidewalk cafés and some of the most beautiful women in the world? Istanbul? Even the name seems an insult.

Another small thing thats odd, the USI is seperated into three parts? That Spain has most of the land, but Portugal has a decent blob of the Atlantic coast, and that Morroco place controls nearly all Iberian Africa!

Spain? Portugal? What kind of names are those? Were the Moors driven out of Al Andalus?

That could be a possible PoD, but with a PoD THAT far back I think the map would be EVEN MORE different than it is now, though I know that is hardly possible.

Why do you say that?

What I want know is what happened to the Republic of Arelat. Next you'll be telling me they don't speak Provencal!

Odd, very odd.

Wasn't that the Osmanli word for The City (a garbled 'ista' polis' -> abraded to 'stamboul' or something of the sort)? (You remember them, those Turkic raiders who were walloped at the 24th Battle of Adrianopolis.)

Perhaps the POD is - oh, who knows, Henry ap Meredith ap Tidder succeeding in conspiring against Richard the Good? Then the last Lancastrians in Spain and Portugal go mad or what have you.... And then the Turkic raiders return, and then - well, no, I can't make it work. Madness.

!!

No, no, no, no, no no....

Surely there must be some mistake....

What, NO BYZANTINE EMPIRE????!!!!!!!

Ridiculous. Nonsense. Ludicrous.

Take down this thread now, I simply won't stand for it....

:D

When do you guys think the POD was for this?

I found it! Corsica is not in genoese hands, is french! So may be admiral Bonaparte campaigns never happened!
(How ironic for a guy that almost united whole Europe, his Corsica is dominated by the state he claimed as his retirement boon)

Maybe Arelat conquered it (which it did, and held it from 1854-1888), and when it somehow managed to... erm... disappear... into France (Françien?)... it went with it?

Pray God this TL hasn't butterflied away Anatolian brandy, especially the 30-year-old bottled by Ataturk Monasteries.

No, the entire Italian peninsula is the Papal States, I thought? No one else would unite Italy with the capital in Rome.

I completely agree. I find it ridiculous that the Kingdom of France doesn't have the Rhineland OR the lower Netherlands. And why would they let their Sicilian cousins lose their kingdom to the Papal States?

An independent Iceland? Who on earth though of that?
And Liechtenstein? Seriously, did the guy just randomly point at a principality and say "I think that I'll keep this one independent?" And why is it that Wales and Cornwall are both part of this so-called "United Kingdom?" I mean, I can understand Scotland, but Cornwall?"

If that was the case, though, the map should rightly identify the nation as such. A map like this, clearly, indicates that something ludicrous has happened, so I'm wondering if the POD for "Italy" actually goes all the way back to the 1400s. If the Papacy stayed in Avignon, it's possible that their hold over Rome would weaken, and the other nations would divide the area amongst themselves. Perhaps this "Italy" is a confederation of some sort, with a federal seat in a neutral Rome, and the individual kingdoms just aren't marked on this map. It sounds crazy, but what about this map isn't?
