DBWI: Allies Win World War I

What if the Allies won World War I?

Then I guess National Activist France, Fascist Italy and Iron Guard Romania wouldn't go on a wild spree in the 1940s resulting in another world war.

We can only hope that the Allies would have made a nicer peace deal then a highly embittered Germany did in 1920. That was a terrible war--it went from all being over by Christmas to creating a farcical German puppet nation of "Burgundy."

I'd like to point out, this PoD is early enough that a third world war, and its heavy usage of nuclear weapons, might have been butterflied as well.

Well, for one thing, Germany might not be the dominant power in Europe. We also wouldn't have had the series of Communist revolutions in the Allied powers (excepting the US) that followed the Central victory - which would have prevented the Second Great War, as countries like France and Russia might not have been Communist nations. However, the undercurrents of Marxist philosophies were strong already so they may have been unavoidable. Britain would have kept its colonies to the present day, as without trouble on the isles, a general undercurrent of revolution, and German supplies to rebels (though that was never totally proven, there's no way they could have gained independence while the British held all the guns. Countries like India would still be under British rule, and they would have kept many of the colonies transferred to Germany or Austria-Hungary. Italy would not have been forced to give up Venice and the land north of it, so their industrial power would be increased. Russia would ave kept its lands on the Baltic instead of having the area broken into a country for every nationality. Austria-Hungary's domains might instead have been Balticised.

Heck, English might even be the dominant world language! I could be typing this in English right now!

For one thing, the U.S. might not have slid into it's isolationist slump after the war. President Wilson had some high minded ideas about a 'League of Nations', or something, similar to what we have now in the form of the Central Council of Nations (CCN), which might actually have prevented a Second Great War, were it not already butterflied away.

Here in the U.S., I would also think that the victorious Wilson would have ran for a third term (which he was angling for in '20, but was cautioned against because of the loss of the war). If Wilson got a third term, cushioned with a League of Nations and a successful transition to a peacetime economy, Wilson would probably have pursued more regulatory economic policies, which probably would've prevented the crash of '29.

Instead, we got suckered with President Harding, Coolidge, and a wartime economy that fell to crap then boomed before crashing. Maybe a Wilson third term would have helped in that regard, followed by someone who had experience running an economic endeavour, like Herbert Hoover, who might not have gotten such a huge stigma in the U.S. had his tenure as food director not been tied directly to a failed war.

In the long run, an allied victory might have lead to the entire avoidance of the fascist period in the U.S. from the 30s to the 50s. That alone would have been a godsend.

OOC: Electing Wilson avoids a fascist takeover? Wilson was close to fascist in his own right--segregating the US Army, presiding over the Palmer Raids, and the Espionage act, as well as a giant pro-UK and anti-German propaganda campaign.

IC: I thought Wilson died of a stroke in 1921. I don't see this working well.

OOC: I wasn't trying to imply that re-electing Wilson is the only path, but that the U.S. simply turned to fascism in the thirties as a result of butterflies. My bad. Wilson's health problems OTL also came out in full force only as a result of his stupid nationwide campaigning for the League, so I was assuming he might've lived a bit longer had he not had to make a winded campaign. Either way, it's DBWI, so I was trying to add a bit of irony here.

Hah! what a though. the Great East Co-Prosperisty Sphere may not exist!
think about that, China, Vietnam, maybe even Korea could be under the Rule of Communist.

Well we wouldn't have lost all those soldiers only to have the m*therf***ing frogs stab us in the back right as we were winning the g*ddamn war for them. If there was to be a *Second Great War we might have been a bit more enthusiastic about joining in, even if we ultimately did get a chance to pay those backstabbing frogs back for hanging us out to dry like they did. We'd be having to save their sorry asses from those goddamn goose-stepping Germans again after all...

As it is, an Entente victory in the Great War would probably have (sadly, those guys made us into a real power) butterflied away forty years of Fascism here in Canada. Without the English-speaking majority agreeing with the Frenchies in Quebec about the value of losing our boys in France and Flanders, Duplessis would never have been more than Premier of Quebec, if he even got that far. Dief the Chief would have been no more than some Fascist-wannabe RCMP sergeant in Alberta. (OOC Diefenbaker was a lawyer from Saskatchewan and a veteran of the Great War.) Trudeau could have just as easily gone Red as he went Orange, though that would have left him marginalized instead of being PM. Manning would never have been more than Premier of Alberta, though his getting that far was inevitable, even if the econmic troubles of the 1930s are butterflied.

If the great Collapse of 1929 still happens, we would probably have been a target for the US *Fascists, rather than a friend who helped them when they needed it most... ...Unless we still managed to get either Manning or the Chief, or maybe someone far out such as Fuller (OOC, in this world he emigrated to Canada after WWI because he didn't want to put up with the restrictions imposed on the British military in the Armistice and in the final treaty, whatever it was called) or Crerar, both of whom became Heroes in the Second Great War, (Fuller built the modern Canadian Army, and Crerar led it to victory in the War), and both of whom could have gone into politics (and gone very far) if they had chosen to.

As it is, it is either Germany or anyone who went Red who is screwed here, not the treacherous Frogs or the decadent English.

I wonder what kind of nonsense the Germany haters and/or the anti-fascist fools will come up with? Will they suddenly have Germany killing all of the Jews and/or the Poles? Will they try to make Fascists out to be as evil as the G*ddamn Reds? Will they have the civilized world ally with the Reds just because, for no real reason at all? Or will we see something original, like having no Second Great War, because it was an Entente victory on points only, (little more than a draw really, just that Germany conceded defeat first), and no-one is up for a rematch?
