DBWI AHC: Make Communism last in Russia at least 10 years after Stalin's death

As you know after Stalin's death there were 2 assassinations of the General Secretary and two party coups before the Red Army had enough of it in 1958 and took over in a military coup. Is there any way the USSR can survive 10 years after Stalin's death or was the government simply built too much around him?

Get rid of Beria with his liberalization policies.

I don't think that would be enough. The entire Soviet government revolved around Stalin. To say he was a paranoid control freak is a gross understatement. With few exceptions most Soviet officials were merely competent, at best. Stalin didn't want many brilliant people around him who he considered a threat to his position. There was simply no one but the marginally competent in a position to take over.

Comrades, the collapse of Stalinist Communism was simply an inevitablity. The Hungarians showed the East Bloc the way to have socialism with a human face in 56, and it wasn't long before the divided leadership of the Soviet Union was facing more than it could handle. Even the military putschists in Soviet Union were out in less than five years, overthrown by the exact same kinds of mass strikes and army mutinies that overthrew the Tsars.

Maybe, have some hardliner like Molotov take power, he may suppress the Hungarian revolution and other rioters for a while, but after Stalin it was an inevitability. Say what you want about the man he was the soviet union.

You could certainly do it with a pre Barbarossa POD, if Barbarossa does not do as well maybe the USSR could limp on without the massive damage

What replaced it was a semi-feudal regime that was a mix of Tsarism and Communism that lasted 10 years followed by a neo-trotskyite regime gone in two more followed by another military regime for another ten followed by a neo-fascist one for 15 more finally winding up with the semi-democratic semi-militaristic socialist regime we have now.

Molotov would indeed be a good bet. He'd last for a while too - plenty of time to stabilize the SU.

There's never been a blueprint for the dictatorship of the Proletariats, so there's bound to be mistakes. However, if you study history, you'll see that since the rise of the nationship, Socialism has been a historic inevitability.. dude.

Which is why it has been tried like 50 million times and hasn't worked yet!
