DBWI AHC kill Rex Odoacer.

They were a real shooting star, weren’t they? The Avars went from being a random Germanic tribe to dominating Gaul and Hispania, only to completely fall apart after Armorica.

I hate to be 'that guy', but they weren't technically Germanic. They were an Altaic group that overran Europe after the Hunnic collapse, and eventually adopted the Germanic loan words and customs from their subjects. But like their Hunnic predecessors, and like the steppe hordes that would follow them (Magyars, Alans, Neohephalites, etc) they basically disappeared once their leadership collapsed. I do have to wonder what would have happened if they'd won in Armorica though. An Altaic Manichaean elite ruling over a Nicean Romano-Gallic population would have been interesting to say the least.

Most of the Mesopotamian Nestorians went to the First Tamil Empire, I thought? I just remember that “men of the Parsi” were mentioned as a significant part of Mar Thoma’s great army in the Nasrani Chronicle who he gave some land to as part of his reforms following the conquest.

As for the Arian paranoia, as once it was, so always it shall be

Seriously, go into any Temple today. Half of the sermons are about those scary forrin Bharati, or nasty dirty Greeks—it’s embarassing, really.

Its best not to read modern politics back into the past. I grew up Arian myself (as one would suspect since I'm from the Anishinaabe Thingdom, in Vinland) and although I don't practice much anymore, I still love it. It can be a beautiful faith and is a huge part of my culture - be I lapsed or not. Its just the hierarchy has been taken over by a bunch of zealots who are more interested in political influence, and harping anti-immigration, than in actually preaching the gospel and caring for their flock. its disgusting, really, and one of the reasons I no longer attend mass frequently; though I still donate my time with a group that's trying to settle refugees from the recent wars down in Southern Markland. *sighs*

Anyway, most of us aren't wackjobs and - although I'm sure your intentions were good - please don't spread anti-Arian bigotry.

Here a question: After the collapse of the Odoacer dynasty in the IX century, italy was irrecognizable, almost everything north of the po river was germanized and many german enclaves were created on the south (The most classic example is how Odoacer IV almost caused a civil war after defeating the lombards and flooding Rome with their people to replace the local population with lombards, just resulting on a massive rioting and the marginalization of the lombards over italy). But a point that we can make is that his dynasty was the longest ruling on "roman" history, no royal family, not even Augustos one could last for more than 3 generations in power, but Odoacer empire kept a steady sucession. Had the roman empire survived, or his empire collapsed earlier, how would Italy have developed?

Now that would be a wild ride of a country. I mean, I presume they’d get attacked by all their neighbors pretty quickly, but it would be a fascinating cultural mix.

The Neohepthalites were farther East, I thought? More of a raiding Lesser Slavia (OOC: Ukraine) and Pannonia deal? They were huge in Transoxiana and Sarmatia, though.

Woah, I don’t think I’ve ever talked to someone from the Thingdom! How are you not frozen to death? :p

I don’t really have an issue with the average Arian—or most Arian clergy, even. It’s just that when the leaders of a religion start making subtle references to racist beliefs—in globally broadcast sermons, no less!—and people don’t bat an eye, it kind of pisses me off.

Anyway, I do apologize. I don’t mean to criticize Arianism, only the racially minded parts of its hierarchy.

The Neohepthalites became less of a threat after defeating the early Turkish groups who were pushing them from the east.. After a series of defeats the Turks looked south and spent much of their energies in India.
