DBWI:AHC: Julius Caesar, Dictator Of Rome

We all know that Julius Caesar, a brilliant politician(and a craps general) was killed campaigning in Gaul. Your task is to have him become dictator, however ASB that is. Bonus points if Pompey is defeated and murdered.

Not at the time. I'm not expert on the period, but the roman republic of the 40'sBCE was a bit unstable.

After Cicero and his allies forced through an amended GrachhI land reform bill and the Senate legion things stabilised well. I suppose in theory even a bumpkin like Caesar could have messed things up though

Well, anything is possible - if nonentities like Marius and Sulla could exercise supreme power, a consular like Caesar might well do so given the right sequence of events. That said, such men, and Pompey, benefited from their struggle, which perhaps gave them the drive and ruthlessness to trample over the scruples of the nobiles. As a noble of an old family, Caesar would probably hesitate to innovate anywhere near as much as those three - and the fact is, despite their patrician rank, the Julii Caesares were simply too insignificant as a dynasty for Caius Julius Caesar to ever attain anything akin to supreme power based on his dynastic importance alone.
