DBWI AH Challenge: US nukes Japan

So, we all know that nuclear weapons have never actually been used in war... though of course, "country X nukes country Y" scenarios are common enough in AH scenarios... so let's ramp that up a notch, take two countries that have never been at war with each other in the modern age. Can you imagine a scenario where the United States of America drops nuclear weapons (a single bomb is alright too) on the Empire of Japan? Ideally, with a post-1900 POD.

Knock the Pacific War back a decade or two so the the US actually has nukes when they're fighting Japan?

OOC: read op, 2 countries that have never been to war in the modern age

IC: perhaps if the empire was involved more openly with the crisis in the Philippines it could have lead to war. Despite being allies at the time there would certainly have been no love lost if they were to have fought. Also with german backing the US would certainly have nuked Japan whether they needed to or not

ooc: almost ASB, IMO. If two hadn't been used in WWII, I suspect dozens would have been used in, e.g., the Korean War. I don't see non-use without the fearsome rep of OTL, and I don't see that developing without an initial use in war time.

How could we do that? It would have been an terrible immoral action. I probably would defect to Switzerland or something if the US did that.:mad::mad:

The only way to have them used in war is to have the habitual fear of them prevented, and in order to have a POD that prevents the terrorist attack on Londom by Zionists extremeist in 1953. And then we'd have a whole host of butterflies, and maybe even prevent the fall of the British Empire.

It all comes down to the Korean question, doesn't it? If the United States intervened in the Korean War against South Korea, things could've gone to hell in weeks, if not days. The Chinese human wave would've crushed the forces in moments, and then a bunch of anti-war hippies would've advocated dropping the bomb. One on Seoul and one on Nagoya.

And then they'd be stratified by the League of Nations; the whole world against the United States of America and the Free Republic of Siberia. Ugh!

...Well, I'll take the abolition of flawed democracy over nuclear armageddon.

OOC: If there is no Pacific War, there would have never have been a Korean war. The Korean war only came after Korea was taken away from Japan and divided into North and South and the Communists got greedy.

Japan would keep that area if it weren't ripped away. The closest thing you could get is a rebellion or communist inspired rebellion against Japanese occupation.

OOC: Scheisse, can I say that in lieu of a Pacific War the Soviets destroyed during "August Storm" and Korea/Manchuria was taken from the Empire?

(And South Korea is an imperial puppet, supported by the Axis and a peace-treatied Britain? Apparently Japan gets a Chinese puppet in this exchange and the outreaches of the USSR rebel with American intervention.)
