DBWI : A United France during the Cold War

(OOC: This is the first DBWI I do, so... Yeah...)

After the Second World War, because of its profound involvement, France was occupied by Allied and Communist forces for a couple of years. Eventually, the tensions rising between the two blocks, led to the creation of the People's Republic of France (also called Northeast France) and the Republic of France (called Southwest France), who shares their border on the Seine river.

With the Cold War ending, and the fall of Communist leadership across Europe, the People's Republic eventually held democratic elections in the beginning of 1990, culminating in the French Reunification on January 1st, 1991.

So, what if instead of being partitioned, France remained a single state, during the Cold War? Would have they kept its colonies? Would Algeria not be the mess it is today? What would be the importance of the PCF (French Communist Party) and its legacy? Is there a chanche for the army to still overthrow the government like they did?

It would result in 20 years of tory government in UK butterflied away, I meant, when there is Communist government right across the channel, could labor be more powerful?

(OoC: I think with the resources of NE France, all of Germany, and the Low Countries, the Eastern Bloc might have held on as bit longer than 1990)
