So George R.R. Martin's excellent series deconstructing the space opera genre has of course met with a lot of success. The story of civil war in the Galactic Empire incorporates a lot of politics and military strategy, while keeping some traditional sci-fi elements, like droids. It also has great characters, who, of course, die in droves. But, what if Martin had made the series in a different genre, like, say, fantasy? What effect would that have had on pop culture as a whole? Would the show version, "Game of World's" still get made? One big thing that pops out to me is that the Star Wars sequel trilogy might be different. The trilogy has been accused of being a rip of of ASOSAM, and Rey especially feels like a ripoff of Daenerys, wanting to restore the Jedi to their place like Daenerys wants the Targaryens to rule the Galactic Empire again. What other effects might happen? Finally, how similar would the story be?
