DBWI: a Republican in 2012?

Ever since Reagen's impeachment in 1987 and Dukukis's election in a landslide a year later we haven't had a Republican president in over a generation. With the economic problems I wonder if we finally will next year. It's been a longer period of total Democratic control then the FDR-Truman years!

I'd say yes, the Democrats failure to stop the economic downturn and the huge spike in gas prices have made sure they won't win.

it seems unlikely Northern Liberals/moderates left long ago, Libertarians and the people calling for rolling back of government have Ron Paul's party and the Christian Right/south are always rallying around some flash in the pan Independent (like 08 with Palin/Huckabee) people are always saying this is the year but the fall of Reagan really broke up the Republican coalition

Not all moderates left the party though. Lincoln Chafee certainly is very popular and looks to be guaranteed the nomination. He is the face of the Republican party now and seems to be attracting a lot of moderates and liberal Republicans who were scared away during the nineties. The Republicans have been trying to distance themselves from the Religious Right ever since the 2000 election and if Chafee runs it will probably help them overcome the tarnished image the party has had since then.

I am a Democrat, but I’ll freely admit that things aren’t looking good given the current economic situation. At least President Shaheen is ending her second term and won’t have to run in this bad climate, but I think Vice-President Richardson or whoever gets the nomination is screwed if Chafee gets the Republican nod.

Its been over a decade since then and I think they may finally overcome the labels they've been associated with since then if Chafee runs.

you have a point, the Neo-Cons in the Democratic party have far too much power, Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz any one?

Well, with the fall of the Republicans the Libertarian and Constitution parties rushed in to fill the void. I say it would be more likely that the Ron Paul / Bob Barr Libertarian ticket would win. Or an independent that touches deep to southern values and religion, we all saw how well the Palin / Huckabee ticket did in 08'.

Speaking of Palin/Huckabee, even George W. Bush would have had more votes than Palin in Texas. Fortunately, Bush made a wise decision to stay in baseball as evidenced by the Rangers 5 World Series titles. They have sold out every home game at Ann Richards Stadium since 2000.

Can you ever imagine Bush following in his dad's footsteps in politics? The thought of it is totally ASB.
