DBWI-A More Right-Wing American South

The American South is well known for being the most liberal region in the country. What sort of POD would be needed to make it more right-wing?

I guess if the puritans from new england had spread south, that might have given the religious right a stronger presence there. But honestly, since the boil weevils decimated the cotton crop and people were relying on the government for food, the south was destined for the left.

It can be done, but it might take a lot. Here's just a basic overview of what you'll need:

1. Shorter Reconstruction.
2. No major backlash against Jim Crow, and related issues, such as corruption-It took until the late 1940s(just after WWII) to happen, but when it did, Jim Crow was over; unfortunately, however, it came at the cost of a lot of bloodshed-you would need to somehow prevent radicalization of disaffected youth and the mobilization of liberal voters down there in the 1950s(and subsequent alienation of the remaining traditional social conservatives to the point where they no longer voted in any notable numbers by 1992).
3. Lots of immigration from a war-torn Europe and Latin America really helped set this in motion; you need to find a way to delay the Immigration Act of 1947, which removed all quotas, as well as the Fair Housing Act of 1949 which prevented unscrupulous real estate companies from gouging house prices.

Puritans? They haven't been around since the early 19th century, though(unless that's another word for Fundies, who are also rarely found there in this day and age.). Also, New England is fairly moderate these days, by and large.....hell, they have more atheists per capita than even the Northwest!

OOC: Wouldn't a longer Reconstruction butterfly Jim Crow away?
