Just a thought i had yesterday while watching some documentary on the Glorious Revolution. If the sickly Prince William, Duke of Gloucester (Later King William VI) died young (i believe he came very close to dying in 1700), this gets rid of the last Protestant Stuart successor to the throne. Now, it has been bought up before that in such an event, the English Parliament would most likely never leave the succession to a Catholic, let alone the descendants of James II. Now, if Catholics are bared from the succession, this leaves the throne to Sophia, Electress of Hanover (a granddaughter of James I) and her successors.
So, basically, if this is the case, what happens? How does a German Dynasty on the English/Scottish/Irish throne effect the political outlook of Europe? How does this effect the Jacobite movement? Discuss?
