DBWI: A completely messed up list of presidents

Well we all learned in elementary school that George Washington was the first president, but how about the others? If you're familiar with our leaders you know that Thomas Jefferson was the second president and John Adams was the third. My friend recently gave me a list of presidents he thought we'd have if Adams won the election of 1796 and Jefferson won the election of 1800 instead of the other way around. It looked like this:

What do you think about this new list of presidents?

OOC: The full butterfly effect does not apply for this TL. Also, I created this list by subbing each president for the execption of George Washington with an "anti-president," usually someone who ran against them IOTL.

For starters, with Democratic-Republicans instead of Federalists in the early 19th century, you wouldn't have seen nearly as rapid development of manufacturing and trade. Plus Jefferson would have probably said the Louisiana Purchase was unconstitutional.

True. If Jefferson didn't support the national bank because nothing about a bank was in the constitution, he definitely wouldn't have agreed to buy all that land from Napoleon I. How do you think the Democratic-Republicans would've been with foriegn policy. Do you think they would've went to war with Britian instead of France in the 1810's?

OOC: I am offended that William Jennings Bryan only got 1 term!

William Jennings Bryan was elected to two terms, one in 1896 and another in 1900 both times beating Conservative William McKinley. Unfortunately, Bryan was assassinated in 1901 by anarchist Leon Czolgosz.

Abraham Lincoln? How would you make a relatively obscure two-bit backwoods Lawyer with no education President of the United States?

He wasn't that unknown. At some point he was considered as a possible candidate to be a Supreme Court Justice, by President Fremont. But that went nowhere, and once the "Liberals" were back in power the issue was abandoned. Like many "Conservatives" [OCC what is up with that names, why not keep them as Liberty Democrats and Republicas?] Lincoln's career went downhill between the Douglass and English administrations.

Who is Barack Obama?

The President of Kenya. Now, I'd like to see a TL where he realistically ends up POTUS.

[OCC, if someone made a TL with that list of anti-Presidents, and really tried to show what the US would be like. It be awesome!]

Isn't it a little ASB that people from OTL show up in this alternate list? That is one huge butterfly net.

hahahaha Ronald Reagan? Seriously? I guess after being one of the most successful actors of all time the only thing left to do is run for president, but I don't see us ever electing an actor as President. Didn't he think about running for governor of California? That I could buy since he was a charismatic guy and into politics, but president? No way. This is just silly.

The original post did mention he was keeping a butterfly net. I guess the idea, is to discuss what the US might look like with this list of "anti-presidents"

Reagan was quite politically outspoken during his life. And a favorite public endorser/figure of the Conservative Party, so perhaps had his acting career gone differently he would have pursued politics instead. With his charisma and all. I can see it happening. However by 1980, he would be a bit too - with the extra stress being President brings, I doubt he could have lived to the end of his second term. But the OP has it there so perhaps he barely makes it.
