DBWI: A Chinese Attack on Tibet

I was looking through an old newspaper and found an article warning about a Chinese attack on Tibet. Apparantly, the Chinese built some roads in the area that could serve as a staging ground for an attack. So WI the Chinese did attack? Could they operate on that altitude?

Well, in today's world after the nuclear war in 1977 when half of China was destroyed, I doubt that they would have the capacity to invade Tibet. But if the People's Army was strong enough maybe they could have. I wonder what would have been the benefits, and if the Tibetans could have mustered up enough of a defense so they could hold strategic mountain passes to keep the Chinese at a halt. Of course it was all later found out that Eisenhower was giving weapons to the Tibetans, so it would have been interesting to see what would have happened.

Oh god, another conspiracy nut. There was NO nuclear war!

Anyway, it's not like Tibet would have been tremendously hard to overcome. A battle or two and the country is too weakened to put up a serious counter-offensive. The only hard part of this challenge is to muster up a reason for China to want Tibet.

There was too a nuclear war, it was covered up by the Reagan administration, how can you explain independent studies aerial shots over China that showed destroyed cities and scorched wasteland. Reagan lied when he said they were doctored by Left Wing nuts, and how can you explain how there were thousands of mysterious deaths in the west from 1977-1978, it was definitely radiation floating eastward from China.

But I agree, what is there in Tibet except mountains and Buddhists?

Well, being the resident Dean/Wellstone pundit, I would like to point out that during the period, the Chinese government was in a state of civil war, brought about by the clash between the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) under the control of Mao Tse-tung and the Red Guard units under General Lin Biao. After the failed assassination attempt on Mao Tse-tung failed in 1976, General Lin Biao was rumored to have seized control of several nuclear bases in Tibet, along with hijacked several major weapons shipments that had been planned for Vietnam and Laos. Apparently both sides were also afraid overt signs of civil war would cause a Soviet invasion....
