DBWI: 1994 MLB strike

What if the MLB strike of 1994 hadn't been averted? How bad would things have gotten if say the playoffs and the world series had been canceled?

Would be a shame to not see Tony Gwynn hit .409. Man, that September was the hottest of any player that I can think of.

Mattingly never would have gotten his Series ring and who knows what would have happened if Montreal had been denied that first trip to the Series.

Without that big run to the Series for the Expos, that run that really ignited the fans in the city of Montreal, even though it ended in a Game 7 loss to New York, do you really think they'd have packed Olympic Stadium for all those games to keep guys like Pedro and Walker et al, and win the Series a year later?

Montreal doesn't go to a World Series in 1994, I don't know if Loria would have kept the club together or gone fire sale between seasons, knowing him, and what happened after he sold the club and the whole embezzlement thing?

Wouldn't be surprised if he'd stripped the team like an abandoned Caddy on the South Bronx Expressway....

That team still gives me nightmares. Facing them in the Series in 1997 when they extracted their revenge, and in inter league always gave me chills. Guerrero and Walker were an unstoppable 3-4 and then you add in freakin' Pedro. Imagine if Pedro went to the Red Sox and we had to face him 4 times a year instead of just once if we were unlucky? Horrifying!

Yeah, many fans seem to think the whole rest of the season being canceled would have been the death knell for Baseball in Montreal.

Well, maybe if there had been a long drawn out negotiation process like there usually is during a strike, then we might have gotten steroid regulations earlier. The MLB and the players' union have been perfectly content to ignore the issue and just keep approving status quo labor agreements. Maybe a strike could break them out of that mentality earlier?
