DBWI: 1980's era Political Parties in a Parlimentary United States

Conservative Party (Mix of the Old Right faction of the GOP OTL and OTL Libertarian Party)

Formed: 1947

Idealogical leanings: Social Conservative/Libertarian, Economic Free Market in the Austrian School tradition, Foreign Policy Noninterventionism

History: Formed in 1947 the Conservative Party has been a voice for smaller government since it's inception. When it was realized that the GOP was not going to survive the Depression Era, Senator Robert Taft formed what we now know as the CP. In 1980 the CP finally had gained the Presidency with the asendancy of Ronald Reagan. Still on the rise the CP is the second largest party in the US.

Major Figures: Robert Taft, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, Ron Paul, Dan Quayle (more articulate ITTL than OTL)

In this timeline the GOP dies. Democrats hold an unbroken Presidential line till the 1976 election. A Progressive wins in 1976 and the economy suffers for it.

OOC: I'm overwhelmed by such a case of Handwavium. PODs required would be Andrew Johnson being removed in 1868, or at the Constitutional Convention.
