DBRP: The Soviet Union has collasped

Finally I say.

Unlike in the US of A where the rights of the Workers have been amended right into the Constitution, in the USSR the State ran both the Factories and the Unions. That's as bad as the Boss owning the Unions.

And the USSR didn't have Freedom of Speech. Any true democracy needs free speech, and any true Socialist or Communist nation needs democracy.

I, personally, blame Stalin. If Russia had someone like President Debs instead of that madman the world would be a much better place today.

(OOC: Socialist USA Folks)

Which of the independence movements do you think will succeed? Ukraine might go, as might some of the Central Asian states- if they can make a go of it on their own. Someone was talking about Belarus and Karelia- no chance. Belarus isn't even an SSR, and Karelian independence puts Leningrad only a few miles from the border. Kamchatka is more likely.

Well, I heard that Lithuania has already declared independence. And gone Capitalist, which is unfortunate but understandable.

The new government apparently will still be keeping the economy largely socialist but will retain more rights. However, most of the Kremlin is filled with secret policemen, so whether this is true is up for debate. At least some hope for justice for the workers of the USSR now exists, with this previously black stain on Marxist glory now removed.

The question is,

will the Apparatchiks who so thoroughly prospered in the corrupt Soviet system now game the new system to hold onto their economic might?

Might we see the rise of some ex-state organized criminal entity, a Russian Mafia, if you will?

Without a history of strong independent unions building benevolent socialism, I fear for the new Russian republic...

Eh, I'm not that much of a fan of Marx. The cases of the USA and the CCCP have clearly shown him wrong on the topic of how the Socialist change should/must come about. Revolutionary change in Russia led to horrible abuses of human rights and the abandonment of the spirit of Socialist Ideology in the name of Socialist Ideology, while peaceful democratic change in the United States has led to greatly expanded freedoms for the Proletariat.

I fear this is very likely.

President Chomsky

is speaking live on TV right now... offering unspecified economic aid to Russia in order to build a "more perfect form of Russian socialism in our time".

And the British Empire has announced it's willing to give aid to promote enterprising Capitalist spirit. Lithuania has already accepted of course.

The Three Way Cold War between Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism has now become a two way Cold War between the British Empire and the USA.

(OOC: British Empire somehow pulled itself out of Debt and became the Third Superpower. While still more liberal than OTL US, it's much more conservative Economically than OTL Britain.)

The East End Rebellion

of 2008 and growing class consciousness of oppressed British workers gives us all hope that the dawn of British socialism is near.

Perhaps, perhaps. But I worry that a Revolution will see an Oceania instead of a Mexico.

(OOC: 1984 has a different name and some of the details are different, but the mind screwiness, overall plot, and all other essential features of it remain the same. It is advertised in the US as an example of why Checks and Balances are needed in all things.)

Unfortunately the "rogue state" of the Republic of China has began doing missile tests along the Sino-Russian border, in an effort to prevent refugees from the former USSR from entering into the country. Apparently Ma Ying-jeou and his mad militarist clique in Nanjing is threatening nuclear strikes....
