DBRP: Korean industrial capacity has surpassed Britain!

I read it in the NY Times today! It is official. Britain is no longer the industrial leader of the world, having been knocked into Second place by the Korean Republic in industrial production and GDP. From what i hear, Germany and the United states are not far behind. The Emperor of Japan has also signed an alliance with the Korean Republic.

There are also talks of a pacific rim agreement between Korea, Japan and the US, especially with Korean and Japanese goods, namely ships, art, armaments (the Korean rifles are among the best in the world) and rice

What do you think, with the Asian Tigers now challenging British supremacy?

OOC: its POD is Korea industrialising the same time as Japan.

And also discuss how this would affect World War 1

This calls into question how far Russia may go in their imperialist expansions in the Far East, as well as Japan's lust after the Korean Peninsula. China, already heavily divided by foreign powers, may fall under Manchurian sway...

From what i hear, President McKinley Is trying to push through with Hawaiian statehood, like Texas OTL, in order to consolidate the us position in the pacific.

OOC: it's 1899

OOC: Then it's quite impossible. Japan's industrialization was already breakneck and relied quite a bit on an exiting proto-industrial society, and even had the resources of Korea for much of it. For Korea to industrialize so much so fast is completely ASB.

sorry, what POD would be necessary for Korea to be an industrial power by 1900?

OOC: Perhaps Korea had annexed a large portion of China after the POD-perhaps Manchuria and Russian Far East along with maybe northern China although then you'll get around pissing off the West.

IIRC: The Pan-Pacific alliance along with the British Empire is inevitable-the German Empire is the most strong militarily in the world and only such an alliance even with their combined industrial might (almost double that of Germany can) could beat it in a conventional war or the Germans already geared toward war (that's why the industrial capacity isn't as large as others since this statistic only counts non-classified production) will crush any of them quickly (except possibly the US).

OOC: Having Korea beat the UK in GDP is probably possible, as long as both are regional powers - a united Korea that got an earlier start to democracy and industrialization (probably with no Korean War) might rival OTL UK for population and economy. Having both economic superpowers is surely ASB.
