Ok, it's good this is in pre-1900 because you need a pre 1900 PoD. Probably no rapprochement with Britain could be the main PoD. However it would create butterflies and we might not get a WW1 or a radically different WW1 than in OTL.

Perhaps a different out come to the Venezuela Crisis of 1895 and follow up Crisis of 1902. If Britain acts a bit more belligerent and no deal is made in 1895-6 than there will be lingering animosity. When the Venezuelan Debt Crisis of 1902 rolls around Britain will have two reasons to apply pressure on Venezuela. If German diplomats are smart they could go directly to Washington and ask President T.R. Roosevelt to use his good offices to find a settlement. Britain on the other hand may take a more belligerent approach as lingering discontent over the 1895 settlement convinces them that only a strong hand will bring a settlement to their liking. While the crisis need not lead to war a strong show of force by the RN in traditionally American waters will certainly wound American pride. US Naval expansion will proceed at a pace even higher than OTL. Sensing a potential ally with whom they have few if any real disputes, the German government begins a policy of recognizing American "zones of interest" while directly cooperating in regions where their national interests overlap (Samoa, China and portions of S. America).

By the time WWI roles around (not necessarily in August of 1914 but anytime between 1910 and 1920) the relations between America and Germany will be strong and Germany will go out of her way not offend America once war breaks out. Britain OTOH will be wary of the enlarged US Navy and once war begins the animosity grows. After a series of incidents and clashes between the USN and RN in the Caribbean and Western Pacific the US finally declares war on the Entente Powers.

It is a good idea, an idea good enough for other people to have made time lines out of it already.

Use the Search function and read them. They'll help you when you write your time line.

I don't think it's all that likely, but then, I'm a believer in the Democratic Peace Theory. (which does have its flaws )

Still, maybe if the United States had gotten a little less....democratic?

Here is how i thought the ending of my TL's WWI should look like.I do not want to spoil but let's say that TTL's WWI is more like the equivalent of our WWII complete with the war crime and that TTL's WWII would be even more horrific and destructive.
