DBAHC: Single Hegemon In The Americas

Otl, the american continent has almost as complicated a balance of power as european empires do. Naturally such a balance means there are some Great Powers like the US, Brazil, California, and La Plata. Not to mention the secondary powers like the United Kingdom of the Caribbean, Colombia, and a few others. However, unlike Europe, where several nations have been able to create hegemony for periods of time (France with Charlemagne/Louis XIV/Napoleon, Spain and later Britain through colonial empires), the American geopolitical web has long been in deadlock, only making shifts every so often.

Your challenge is to have a single hegemon emerge in the Americas, and keep it on top as long as possible

If the European colonial powers intervened in the Americas less often, then a hegemonic power probably would have arisen. It was only by the 1940s or so that most countries in the Americas were independent rather than some form of protectorate or dominion, after all.

The most highly populated and industrialized colony was British North America, with Brazil a close second. If BNA became independent earlier as the United States of Canada, I could see it becoming the hegemon. Though if that happened, I imagine California and Columbia would have remained British loyalist and would have blocked the US from reaching the Pacific, preventing the Oregon royal land grant of 1925.
