DBAHC: Make the Sumatran and Javan Rhinos Critically Endangered

Today the sumatran and javan rhinos of southeast Asia are both ranked as vulnerable, if still highly threatened by deforestation and poaching, and have become mainstays in zoos in recent years. However, with a POD until 1975, the idea of this thread is to make both species critically endangered or even extinct, with them having no more then 100 wild individuals at a time.

Multiple tambora and krakatau level eruptions in and on the islands over the course of a decade .. Meteor .. Or just have humans hunt them to extinction pre 1950 for ivory or meat or what have you .. Hinestly , humans could do it pretty quickly especially between say 1850 and 1950

What the hell man? I though you were smart and didn't just think of any ASB that came into your mind. This is an incredibly stupid AH idea; it is implausible for such a common species to die out. POST THIS IN THE ASB FORUM! STOP ACTING SO IMPLAUSIBLE!
(this is a joke by the way)

Um, the sumatran only numbers around 2070 and the javan reaches only around 1000, and both exist in scattered pockets, so they're still pretty rare.
Well it is fairly common, and numbers are only getting larger. By jolly, I just saw some a few months ago on an expedition to the near Spice Islands!
