DB: Your favourite movie endings

Not your favourite movies - your favourite movie endings. Twist endings, endings with famous quotes... post your favourite movie endings here. (Needless to say, if you haven't seen the movies there will be spoilers!)

I can think of a couple that I really like. One is the end of Casablanca, where Rick has just shot Strasser and it seems as if he's about to be arrested... then Renault says "Round up the usual suspects", and tells Rick about the Free French forces in Brazzaville that he can escape to while Renault looks the other way. Renault's my favourite character in Casablanca - I like how fascinatingly morally-grey he is.

Another favourite of mine is the ending to the Monty Python movie The Meaning of Life, where it comes back to the restaurant at the end and Gaston the waiter takes the camera on a long walk as the credits roll, before putting forth his own philosophy of "Try and make everyone happy everywhere you go"... then getting defensive and losing his temper, and shouting "Fuck off! Don't come following me!" before storming away as the end of the Galaxy Song fades in. Even though The Meaning of Life is my least favourite Python film of the three, I think it has the best ending.

(OOC: You get the idea. Alternate endings to movies. Be creative - or, if you know of any ideas that actually got rejected during the making of the movie, maybe you can write that.

About the ones I wrote: the Casablanca one was because the main flaw of the film, as I saw it, was that Renault does so complete a Heel Face Turn at the end for no good reason - I thought a better & more realistic ending would be for Renault to help Rick but not give up his cushy job as Prefect of Police, because it's not in his nature. And the one of The Meaning of Life - that actually was considered as an ending but rejected. Someone edited it together and put it on YouTube (link is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQwk08TxdQ0) and I think it's much much better than the ending we got - plus the whole long-walk-following-the-waiter actually works really well when it's got credits rolling over it.)

I love the end of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" when Butch pokes his head out of the barn and sees the entire Bolivian Army waiting for them outside. Instead of trying to shoot their way out against impossible odds they dig a hole under the back of the barn escape and move to Australia where Sundance becomes one the pioneer surfers on the gold coast. :D:D

I loved the end of Saving Private Ryan where Tom Hank's beseiged platoon was saved by the timely intervention of RAF Ground Attack Typhoons.

It really emphasised how important co operation amongst the Allies was in the success of D-Day and displayed that the war in Europe was not just USA vs Germany as a lot of Hollywood producers had come to believe.

I'll say Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World. The attack of the pteranodons on the helicopters near the end and Ajay's dramatic end was the best action scene of the decade. I was jumping out of excitation in my seat when I watched it in the theatre. It looked so real, and at the same time so fantastic! It was incredibly well done. But the best came with the epilogue in which old sick Hammond passed away and Ian Malcolm attended the spreading of his ashes over the Pacific Ocean, right before discovering that those pteranodons had indeed escaped the island... brrrr! One of the few times in which a sequel trully surpasses the original. :):):)

OOC: I hate you Spielberg.

"Man on Fire" Denzel surrendering to the kidnappers with an ass bomb was brilliant, i never saw it coming.

I thought it was wierd when he said to the mother. "Wait till you see me get in the car then call this number."

Watching Denzel laugh as you hear the pager go off, was one of the saddest yet brilliant endings ever. Then BOOM the car blows up. Made an average film into an exceptional one.
