Darwin's 9.2" guns see action

I went to the East Point Military Museum recently when i returned to my old hometown of Darwin after 5 yrs, seeing the phenomenal collection of weapons on display there- esp the massive 9.2" coastal gun which, together with the other 2 (which ironically were sold postwar for scrap to a Japanese co.), never fired a shot in anger. Now, what AH scenarios would've been required for these guns to have actually been used ? What say if they'd been installed before 1944, by which time the threat of Jap invasion had receded ?

9.2" guns, eh? Pre-WWI design, right? Well, they could be handy against anything cruiser size or smaller, I'd imagine.

I don't think a BB would enjoy being hit by 9.2" shells very much, but yes, devastating on anything like heavy cruiser or less. How about if they were installed in 1941 and some warships followed up Nagumos airstrike of 19/2/42 with some shelling, these guns could have a crack then.

Trouble with coastal guns is they could usually be taken by a land march. The Japanese took down more formidable defences at Singapore and Manila Bay with infantry.

But only if one intends to land. A mere hit and run attack with some shelling added to the mix would not include a landing.
