Darkening Days -An ATL of the British Royals

For King and Country -An ATL of the British Royals

Bit of a crap title I know....but its my first go....gonna be very short to begin with...starts with George V's death on January 20 1936.....what I think might've happened had Edward VII married and had kids....I've done some snooping and hope its okay for him to have a fictional Queen,

"Hours of waiting just for the mechanical end when all that is really life has departed only exhausts the onlookers and keeps them so strained that they cannot avail themselves of the solace of thought, communion or prayer,"
-Mr. Bertrand Dawson, Physician to the British Royal Family, on the night of January 20th 1936

"I hope I will make good as he has made good,"
-King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland immediatley after the death of his father King George V

"David was as white as a sheet when I found him in his room at the big house, he was so scared that he was shaking, like Georgie when he has had one of his nightmares. The poor thing. I could do little to comfort him. He didn't get much sleep I don't think. It's funny to think of him not only as my husband and the father of the little ones, but as King of the world's most powerful Empire. I cannot write any more, dear Mamma, as I am nearly as tired as poor David, due to the baby turning about all night. I shall write again tomorrow. Lissy"
-Queen Alice in a telegram her mother, Her Grace, Evelyn, the Duchess of Devonshire. January 21st 1936

"Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to call to His Mercy our late Sovereign Lord King George the Fifth of Blessed and Glorious memory, by whose Decease the Crown is solely and rightfully come to the High and Mighty Prince Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David.
We, therefore, the Lords Spiritual and Temporal of this Realm, being here assisted with these His late Majesty's Privy Council, with representatives of other Members of the Commonwealth, with other Principal Gentlemen of Quality, with the Lord Mayor, Aldermen, and Citizens of London, do now hereby with one voice and Consent of Tongue and Heart publish and proclaim that the High and Mighty Prince Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David is now, by the death of our late Sovereign of happy memory, become King Edward the Eighth, by the Grace of God King of this Realm and of all His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, to whom His lieges do acknowledge all Faith and constant Obedience with hearty and humble Affection, beseeching God by whom Kings and Queens do reign, to bless the Royal Prince Edward the Eighth with long and happy Years to reign over us,"
-the Proclamation of the Accession of King Edward VIII to the Throne. 21st January 1936

"I promise you, my dearest Lissy, that whatever has been between us in the past, whatever came before all of this, I promise that I will never stop loving you, and I hold you in the deepest depths of my heart's affections. The truth of the matter is that I love you so much, and so deeply, that my world must center about you. You are the woman I love and the mother to my children. I promise you that nothing will ever come between us again. Of that I am certain. Sleep well, my darling, and I shall see you as soon as my new responsibilities allow me,"
-King Edward VIII in a note to Queen Alice on January 22nd 1936

"You be careful, my girl, we both knew that this time would come, and now it has, you are in the most precarious position of your life; as the wife of the King, and as the mother of a future one. Tread most carefully. After all, QM's shoes are very bejewelled and grand, and you must go about filling them with all the politeness and grace with which you fulfilled your role as P.o.W. You should be relieved that I am closer to QM than most, and I would hope that if she found something amiss with your conduct...she would tell me, in a hope that I may pass it on to you. David, as I think you suspect, has a long way to go in the business of running a country, though I hope that he will do his Father justice, as I know his dear Mamma would like him to. God bless you, the children, and the unborn little one. Your Mamma. P.S: I hear that drinking warm milk before retiring helps to send the baby to sleep. P.P.S: You may be wanting to think about a M.o.t.Rbes, I have been studying potential candidates and have come to the conclusion that the Duchess of Wellington would be a suitable candidate,"
-The Duchess of Devonshire, Mistress of the Robes to Queen Mary 1921-1953, writing to her daughter Queen Alice, January 24th 1936

Okay, I don't know why, but I'm really very nervous, hopefully I'll be alright at this ATL writing lark....hope it was okay....despite the length
I am hoping, if this is good enough, to be updating reguarly, but have exams approaching so may be a bit constrained as to when I can update....but I hope you liked it....

Would love some constructive criticism, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm not the biggest politics swot at the minute, but am reading a Wiki article on Stanley Baldwin as we speak :) So yeah, I like concentrating on social aspects, but will try my hardest to be an all rounder. Brownie Promise

Interesting. I would advise you to use books as sources more than wiki though. Especially about Armenia, Poland, Turkey, etc.

Looks interesting, though I think a fictional Queen makes things a little difficult to judge in terms of realism. Though if you're hoping more to write an entertaining story this seems like a good start.

Thank you :) As I said in my first post, I think, I am a student who writes stories for fun, and I see writing ATLs as a form of literature :p As it is essentially an individuals ideas of what couldve happened, and literature is an individuals ideas, is it not? And I was hoping for it to be an entertaining piece, writing is my craft :)
