Dan Sickles does time.

In OTL, New York politician Daniel Sickles murdered his wife's lover, Philip Barton Key, son of Francis Scott Key, on the steps of the US Capital. This was I believe in 1859. His defense team included future secretary of war Edwin Stanton, who served as Sickles' lawyer and managed to get him acquitted of murder by being the first to use the 'temporary insanity' defense. When Sickles went to jail before the trial, his political clout was such that he was not only allowed to have visitors, but most of Washington, DC's high society came to visit. And he was allowed to keep a weapon with him. Not only was he acquitted, but he gained a reputation as having "saved the ladies of Washington from a rogue."

So the WI is what if Sickles is found guilty? What effect would the butterflies have had on Tamany Hall and the ACW? No III corps commander= no indication of Stonewall's movement at Chancellorsville, a vastly different 2nd day at Gettysburg and possibly no Gettysburg NMP. (these are just the obvious ones)
