One of the interesting tidbits in "The Longest Day" notes that the political leaders of the USA, for various reasons, wanted to switch the invasion beaches around in Normandy, so that the US troops would have the westernmost beaches. But the planning and positioning had gone too far to change, so the plans stayed as is. But what if the planning had been done as the USA wanted from the beginning? Thus, the US forces would land on what were Juno and Sword beaches, and the Brits would land on what were Utah, Omaha, and Gold beaches. In subsequent campaigns, the US forces would be more in the north, along the coastline, and the Brits would be more in central Europe, reversing the campaigns from OTL. How might this all play out?
