I thought in American politics, you only got one shot at the top job? Miss it on the first run and you were labeled a loser from then on. And Nixon hadn’t just lost the Presidential election, he’d gone on to a run for governor of California and lost that too. Two time loser, who would be stupid enough to give him another shot?

Besides, as he said 'You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore.'

Nomination, yes. Could he beat RFK, I'm not sure.

Why do people always insist that if Nixon runs so does RFK? Humphrey swept the delegates, RFK was never getting the position without Johnson, and I'm sure he'd throw his weight behind Nixon in that case!

William Jennings Bryan was given 3 shots by the Democrats, and Adlai Stevenson was twice trumped by Eisenhower, but the 1960 election was very close. Close enough to be given one more chance, but yeah Nixon was pretty dead in the water by '68.

The Vietnam War would have probably panned out very differently. Maybe he would have pulled out too fast and South Vietnam would have fell to the commies in the north.

You funny guy.

Hey, then we'd have another woman president, why not.

Both of whom would be Republican, but somehow we're still the anti-woman policy -- one would think Liddy Dole's presidency would have been enough.

Anyways, Patricia Nixon Cox made it all the way to Lt. Governor of California - maybe her dad as President would have made it possible?
