Czech Legion rescues the Romanovs in Russian CW

Hitler was against any sort of Slavic army fighting alongside the Wehrmacht, the Russian Liberation Army was merely a propaganda stunt until things got really desperate for the Nazis.

I'm aware of that, but the Romanov's after Alexander III were never know for their political nuance. Frankly, as a symbol, an anti-Semitic member of the old Imperial order would be a fairly good head of a propaganda stunt.

Maybe so but they would have no real power and even then Hitler would despise the idea of anything other than the Romanovs ruling over a fascist Siberia.

No, like I said, they would never be anything other than a figurehead for the army. Heh, a Russian Far East run by a fascist-backed junta is such a wonderful idea! A Siberian People's Republic is such a cliché but I've never seen an Empire of the Urals before.

One of the major difficulties for the Whites was that they WERE associated with the old regime. They spent a lot of effort denying that they were going to reestablish the monarchy, because the people had soundly rejected it. Associating the Romanovs explicity with the Whites will only lead to their quicker defeat.

I like Alex Richards' scenario, though.

An army which would only exist on paper until it the war was already lost. :)

I know, I also like the idea of the Tsar heading it instead of the clihe Vlasov or even Stalin in some less-intelligent TL's

The Romanovs alive would probable worsen white morale, since a large proportion of so-called whites were socialists (SRs) or othwerwise non-conservative.

Yes they were. Until the generals and the admirals got to them. Then the leadership tended to suddenly become quite rightist.

Not necessarily monarchist, however, that's unarguable.

I'm currently writing a variation of this scenario in which George V decides to answer Nicholas II's plea to allow him and his family to escape to Britain in Feb 1917. Nicholas and his wife are given the titles 'Grand Duke and Duchess Nicholas and Alexandra Romanova' and are given board at Kew Palace (which at this point is empty, unused and on the outskirts of London). Nicholas lives out life as the official representative of the Romanov familily in international issues (i.e. Nicholas signs the Treaty of Versailles analogue (WWI stalemate due to butterflys) stating that the Romanov family recognises and accepts the terms of the treaty.) and there is then a constant simmering of anti-Bolshevik resent just below the surface (not too sure on the details yet.)

By the way, would it be possible for Olga to marry Edward VIII and then ascend as Queen Consort?

What happens to the considerable political pressure on George to not give the Romanovs asylum?
